Formula Renault Eurocup – AVF close to the points in Austria

Ending almost two months of break, the Formula Renault Eurocup fraternity went back in action at the Spielberg circuit. AVF by Adrián Vallés went very close to celebrating their first points of the season with a great drive by Axel Matus in Sunday’s race 2. The Mexican fought hard in the middle of the pack, defending a top-10 position until the very last minutes when he had to settle for 11th. Matus can be satisfied anyway, having shown his best performance of the year after starting 16th on the grid.

Following the free session, Friday evening already featured the first qualifying which set the grid for race 2. Eliseo Martinez and Matus set the 8th fastest lap of their groups, while the Spanish confirmed the same result during Saturday morning’s Q2.

In race 1, scheduled for the evening, all the AVF cars crossed the finishing line but a torrential rainfall forced the stewards to stop the battle early. In race 2, aside from the good performance from Matus, Martinez, and team-mates Xavier Lloveras and Christian Munoz saw the chequered flag again, adding more mileage and experience in their bag.

The Formula Renault Eurocup will be again on track next weekend at the historic Spa-Francorchamps venue, supporting the famous 24-Hour endurance race. AVF by Adrián Vallés will have a new chance to secure a deserved top 10 position.
