FIA Formula 2 – FRUSTRATING WEEKEND FOR DAMS AT ZANDVOORT

DAMS had a challenging FIA Formula 2 weekend at Zandvoort, with neither Ayumu Iwasa nor Arthur Leclerc able to pick up points.
A heavily interrupted qualifying half-hour meant the DAMS pair couldn’t improve their lap times in the second half of the session, seeing the duo start both races from outside the top-10.
No points were awarded for the abandoned rain-affected Sprint Race, before a difficult event on Sunday, with Iwasa and Leclerc finishing 13th and 14th respectively.

#11 AYUMU IWASA
“We had a positive start to the weekend in Free Practice, but we were missing a bit of performance in qualifying, which was disappointing and something we need to work on as a team. On Saturday we had effectively no race due to the weather, and today was very frustrating as we missed a chance to make a positive step in the championship.”

#12 ARTHUR LECLERC
“In qualifying, we didn’t have the pace for much more. The red flags were unfortunate, but it’s the same for everyone so we can’t complain. The most important thing in the Sprint Race was that everyone was ok after the crash. We made a positive start to the race today, but the time lost during the pit stop pushed us down the order. It’s extremely difficult to overtake here so I wasn’t able to get back up into the points.”

“Qualifying was disappointing for both cars. On the first run we didn’t have enough pace, and on the second there were so many red flags, neither driver was able to set a lap time. The Sprint Race was effectively washed out by the heavy rain. Today, the track temperature was very low, with wet parts around the circuit, making it difficult to choose the right strategy. Ayu started on slicks but unfortunately had an incident while going for an overtake, meaning he would eventually finish P13. For Arthur, he began on wets and was making progress, but as the track was drying we pitted early. Unfortunately we made a mistake during the pit stop, which spoiled his race. Overall a frustrating weekend for us, and we have to react at Monza.”
