INTO THE SUNSET: LAMBORGHINI IRON LYNX SIGNS OFF 2024 FIA WEC SEASON

Lamborghini Iron Lynx completed its 2024 racing season today at the Bahrain International Circuit, pulling the curtain on its maiden FIA WEC campaign. Unfortunately, the #63 Lamborghini SC63 LMDh was forced to retire by a technical issue in the closing stages of the series finale.

Edoardo Mortara drove in the first two hours and delivered a sensational start, moving up to eighth in the opening lap. He later maximised tyre saving in a tough double stint. Although the gap, which became more than one lap, was going to be hard to recover, Daniil Kvyat and Mirko Bortolotti also delivered multiple amazing stints. Two safety-car situations did not provide the chance to regain the ground lost. In the final phase, with cooler temperatures and softer medium tyres, the pace was looking promising until a cooling problem forced Bortolotti to stop for good.

As the season draws to a close, Lamborghini Iron Lynx wishes to thank everyone who supported the new project throughout its first days and its ups and downs. The team’s incredible staff, who provided an endless amount of hard work and dedication, the drivers and all the partners and fans.

Emmanuel Esnault, Racing Director: “I want to thank everyone who gave their passion and commitment to this project despite all the obstacles we were called to face. First and foremost, all of the mechanics, engineers, and all team personnel. Everyone worked tirelessly to overcome every issue and maximise every single aspect, day in and day out. Our drivers performed exceptionally well, despite often having to run on inferior equipment. We also thank our technical partners and last but not least, the many fans who cheered for us with genuine affection. It has been a tough but unique journey. We gave everything we could, and definitely showed promising signs on many occasions.”

Mirko Bortolotti: “Unfortunately, we had to retire today due to a technical issue. Not the ending we wanted. It’s been a really challenging season, the first for Lamborghini Iron Lynx in FIA WEC. We expected some difficulties, but towards the end, we were still struggling a lot with the car and some other aspects. A disappointing year, I must say, but we deserved to close it by finishing the race. The guys worked really hard all season, and a big thanks go to them for the dedication, hard work, and passion.”

Daniil Kvyat: “It has been a challenging year. The results were not as we wanted, but knowing that it was the first year in the category, we had some encouraging performances. We were in the mix many times, fighting with much more experienced rivals. We know which areas we need to address and we hope to bring the updates we need to be more competitive. I’m proud of the boys and girls in the garage. Everyone was very dedicated and worked really hard. I thank them for that.”

Edoardo Mortara: “Unfortunately today we had a technical issue and we could not complete the full length of the race. As always, we gave our best, and we showed good competitiveness at some point, even though we were missing a bit of pace today. It’s always a little bit frustrating when you’re not fully able to compete with the others. It was a tough challenge for us. We knew it, coming the first year in the championship, that we were facing some great competitors, constructors, teams, and drivers. We learned a lot and improved. We showed at some point that the car could be competitive, and it’s up to us now to work to extract the maximum performance all the time.”
